People rally around man’s unsolicited advice to woman on her outfit: ‘He was trying to save you’

When it comes to fashion, many people like to get the opinions of others to elevate their style. However, one wouldn’t expect critical feedback about their outfit from someone on the bustling streets of New York. A woman named Steph—who goes by @steph_by__steph on TikTok—shared that a random stranger offered his advice on her outfit out of the blue in a baffling conversation. The woman mentioned that she was just walking on the streets when the man approached her and very casually blurted out a comment on her outfit as feedback. Steph was wearing a casual white short dress with chunky, glossy black shoes rich with gold detailing.

She turned her camera towards a man standing in the distance before turning it towards herself in complete astonishment. “That dude. I’m not even kidding right now, this literally just happened to me,” she exclaimed, confused. “I was walking on the street and this dude stopped me and said, ‘Listen, I have to tell you this,’” Steph recalled. She then explained that the man straightforwardly told her that her “shoes don’t match” her outfit. Assuming it to be a joke, the woman awkwardly chuckled but the man was adamant to let her know. “He said, ‘No, no, I’m serious. Your shoes are too dressy and your dress is too casual,’” Steph mentioned.

The woman was completely flabbergasted at the man’s ability to randomly advise on her outfit. “I stared at him for 5 seconds in silence,” she added. At a loss for words, she asked him why he was talking to her. “I don’t know, I just like to give advice sometimes,” the man explained. Steph recalled staring at the man and vice-versa for the next 10 seconds with no conversation whatsoever. The man then just left while the woman was still baffled, trying to understand the scenario that just unfolded. “And then he just walked away,” she said. “What did I do to him?” Steph concluded as she revealed a complete look of her outfit from head to toe.

Steph titled the scenario a “strange encounter in NYC.” While she was boggled at the situation, commenters validated the man’s gesture.
